It was hit or miss finding overnight accommodations in the town of Saint-Fargeau, and we were fortunate to find two rooms in the chambre d’hote (bed and breakfast) with a lovely garden, cheerful owner and delicious breakfast.
We had come to town to visit the Saint-Fargeau Castle. The origins of this castle go back to the 10th century. Michel Guyot, owner and restorer of Saint-Fargeau castle, is also the man behind the Guedelon castle, you will read about in another gallery. At Saint-Fargeau castle, we toured the beautifully restored and furnished rooms, but our favorite was the tour of the attics, where great oak beams support the roof and the towers. Ancient construction techniques were laid out for all to see.
Visit the castle website for more background on the castle.
